By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThree people, including a Santa Paula resident, were arrested early Saturday after they allegedly embarked on a short-lived burglary spree of small area markets.According to Santa Paula Police Sergeant Ryan Smith, the SPPD received a 4:26 a.m. call of an attempted burglary that had just occurred at Neighborhood Market, located at 602 N. 12th St. Officers responding to the area “observed two suspicious subjects” at High and Oak streets, and upon further investigation saw one of the subjects was holding a steel pipe.“The subjects were detained,” and Smith said further investigation “revealed the subjects in fact attempted to burglarize the store,” but were unable to gain entry. The front doors of Neighborhood Market, he added, sustained moderate damage.Guadalupe Guadian, 28, of Santa Paula, and Martin Rivera, a 25-year-old resident of Port Hueneme, were arrested without incident for suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit crime, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
Smith said as officers checked the surrounding area for evidence they located a female subject “hiding in a vehicle,” a Toyota Corolla parked on the 1100 block of High Street. “Officers contacted the subject and inquired why she was hiding in the vehicle,” and she was found to be the driver for Guadian and Rivera. Officers found stolen property and burglary tools, including bolt cutters, in the vehicle and arrested the woman, identified as Rachel Kirk, 22, a resident of Oxnard.During the investigation, officers revealed the subjects were responsible for another burglary that occurred moments earlier at Central Market, located in the 1000 block of East Main Street. During that incident, Smith said the subjects forced entry through the front doors and took several items from within the store, “cigarettes and alcohol,” valued at about $400.The damage to the two stores, Smith noted, “is about $1,000.... They damaged the doors by force of entry.”Guadian, Rivera and Kirk were lodged at the Ventura County Jail and released pending a court appearance.
