Be sure to mark you musical calendars for “Ol’ Latin Tunes,” a fundraiser with a beat to benefit the 17th Annual De Colores Art Show & Festival. De Colores, a celebration of art, music, food and culture, will return to Santa Paula in September and be held at the Santa Paula Art Museum (SPAM).

De Colores Founder and SPAM Board Director Xavier “Big X” Montes is promising top entertainment and plenty of fun at the Friday, June 18 “Ol’ Latin Tunes” celebration and fundraiser. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the new museum, located just north of the Santa Paula California Oil Museum at the corner of East Main and 10th streets.

“Being the times that they are, I will be gathering a few friends of mine to form a small combo to raise funds for De Colores,” with a thrifty only $15 per person cost for June 18 “Ol’ Latin Tunes.” Featured at the event will be “80 years young Charleen Humphrey,” known as the Marimba Queen.

Montes said another featured musical guest is “Master ‘congero’ Maurilio Gonzalez. The event will be in a relaxed and casual setting with short interviews, performances, and a raffle of donated artwork.”

Montes himself, an acclaimed musician and artist, will be the master of ceremonies for the event. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and Montes, also the founder of the music and festive Fandango, promised there will be plenty of seating. “And,” he added, “dancing maybe” by those unable to resist the strong musical beat.

Montes is asking that those who are unable to attend “Ol’ Latin Tunes” to consider making a donation: for tickets or a donation make checks payable and mail to Santa Paula Art Museum (mark De Colores on the memo line), 117 N. 10th St., Santa Paula, CA 93060. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event.
