We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Gonzalez as the director of the Ventura County Health Care Agency.
He will begin transition into this role immediately.
Dr. Gonzalez is uniquely qualified for this position. In addition to being an outstanding physician, during his nearly 20 years of working with the Agency he has been a proven leader in the areas of clinical services, administration and operations.
In his most recent role as Agency medical director, Dr. Gonzalez has excelled in coordinating and developing physician services and programs for VCMC’s two hospitals, 30 medical clinics and Family Medicine Residency Program. Bright, thoughtful and practical, he has been able to coordinate services in a way that ensures top quality care is provided in the most cost efficient manner possible.
Prior to becoming Agency medical director, Dr. Gonzalez served in a variety of clinical leadership and administrative roles. He spent many years as the Ambulatory Care medical director, during which he oversaw and participated in the administration of a variety of complex clinical services, partnerships and practice settings including primary care and specialty services.
He has served important roles in many other parts of the Agency, including the ACE program and the Ventura County Health Care Plan, and collaborated closely with the Public Health and Behavioral Health Departments. Most recently, he was instrumental in supporting the joint Behavioral Health and VCMC Ambulatory Care program to integrate physical and mental health services.
Dr. Gonzalez received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, and his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine, during which he was elected chief resident, he also completed a fellowship in Rheumatology. Dr. Gonzalez worked in private practice in Camarillo for over 10 years, during which he also served as the president of his private practice group.
