Rotary BBQ honors new teachers at Santa Paula schools

The Santa Paula Rotary Club honored new teachers in local schools with their annual BBQ last week. It took place at the Wilson Ranch and Rotary President Guy Cole started things off saying teachers are unappreciated, but, he added, “There are people out there who still value your hard work and dedication.” 

Santa Paula Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Pamela Martens said this was one her favorite events to attend every year. She introduced Santa Paula High School Principal Elizabeth Garcia, who in turn introduced the new teachers. 

Talking about the new teachers, Garcia said, “All of them are wonderful teachers and I’m so happy they are on staff.” The new teachers are: Priscilla Arco (Special Ed), Stephanie Lowe-Steiger (Speech Pathologist), Alicia Jablonski (Art and AVID), Jamie Ryan (Science), Armando Rico (Social Science) and Mathew Buck (Social Science).

Santa Paula Elementary School District Superintendent Dr. Paul F. Chounet said, “There’s nothing better than recognizing new teachers and also teachers who have decided to go into administration.” He introduced several new administrators, including Emma Posada (Aspire), and Ginger Riggins (School Nurse). 

Dr. Chounet also introduced principals, some new and some reassigned to new schools. They are: Lydia Olivo (McKevett), Jeff Robinson (Bedell), George Alessi (Isbell), Lori Sanchez (Barbara Webster), Sheryl Misenhimer Glen City), Mary Fennell (Grace Thille), and Patti Fulbright (Blanchard).

Isbell Principal George Alessi introduced his administrative team: Gina Ramirez (Assistant Principal) and Darren Hicks (Dean of Students). Bedell Principal Jeff Robinson presented one new teacher, Valerie Lopez 3rd Grade). McKevett Principal Lydia Olivo introduced a new kindergarten teacher who actually attended kindergarten at McKevett, Carlie Murillo.  

Barbara Webster Principal Lori Sanchez, who started her teaching career 31 years ago at that school, has six new teachers. They are: Jennifer Downs (Transitional Kindergarten), Alison Fox (Kindergarten), Sandra Magana (Kindergarten), Kristen Wreesman (1st-2nd combination), Carri Galt (Special Education) and Melissa Graham (Speech).

Briggs School District Superintendent Deborah Cuevas had two new teachers to recognize. They are: Iveth Perez (1st-2nd combination) and Genaro Magana (4th Grade).
