An Oxnard fugitive led law enforcement on a high-speed chase that topped 110 mph Wednesday night, a pursuit that started in Camarillo and ended on Cameron Street in Santa Paula.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to pull a vehicle over for a traffic stop in Camarillo about 9:50 p.m., but it instead sped off and entered Highway 101. The vehicle headed northbound at a high rate of speed through Oxnard and into Ventura.
The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit from the VCSD around the Victoria Avenue exit. The suspect went eastbound on the 126 from Ventura to Santa Paula - still driving at speeds exceeding 110 mph - and finally exited at Palm Avenue.
The pursuit wound through several surface streets before CHP officers stopped and arrested the driver without further incident at about 10:10 p.m. on Cameron Street. A female passenger was questioned and released. No one was injured during the pursuit.
Arrested was 49-year-old Jesus Monares of Oxnard, sought as a fugitive on a felony drug conviction.
