Vietnam veteran Leo Gutierrez was going blind with cataracts and the waiting list with the V.A. was six years. Dr. Bartelson and Dr. Ikeda of Heritage Valley Eye Care suggested he contact the Santa Paula Lions Club.

After much work and an extensive diagnosis by the doctors, it was determined he needed cataract surgery. Then President Ken Ary of the Lions Club went to work filling out the proper forms for approval necessary for the surgery in Glendale.

Gutierrez has always assisted other veterans, making him an extra asset to our community. Due to the Lions Club assistance in correcting his sight, he now sees very well and is grateful to the Lions Club and Heritage Valley Eye Care.

Doctors Bartelson and Ikeda continue working closely with the Lions Club in an effort to assist schoolchildren to obtain glasses.
