Oxnard Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred when a Santa Paula woman apparently ran a red light and struck a motorcycle carrying a father and daughter.

The man was killed in the collision and his daughter was left seriously injured.

Oxnard Police and emergency personnel responded to a report of a crash about 11:15 p.m. Friday, April 18 at the corner of Vineyard Avenue and Esplanade Drive.

When they reached the scene they found an unidentified 22-year-old Santa Paula woman was driving a car north on Vineyard where she failed to stop for a red traffic signal striking a motorcycle traveling west on Esplanade Drive.

When the woman’s car entered the intersection it struck the motorcycle driven by Francisco Ayala, 51, of Oxnard. Ayala’s 19-year-old daughter was a passenger on the motorcycle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his unidentified daughter suffered serious injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. Her condition, according to police, is stable.

Oxnard Police said Ayala and his daughter were wearing helmets; the Santa Paula woman did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

The crash is still being investigated.
