potential SPHS parking district

July 25, 2014
Santa Paula City Council

If you want to see it you’ll have to be there when the City Council holds a special meeting Monday to allocate money for two School Resource Officers and continues discussions on implementing a parking district in residential neighborhoods surrounding the high school.

Deputy City Clerk Lucy Blanco said Thursday the special session, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will not be televised or streamed live online.

The meeting will be held at City Hall Council Chambers, 970 E. Ventura St.

The special meeting was expected to take place by the council, which started its summer hiatus in June and is scheduled to return for its second meeting of August.

School Resource Officers (SRO) will be paid by the city and the Santa Paula Unified School District; the city will pay about $55,000 to cover the cost for the approximately 13 weeks school will not be in session. The officers will work on the high school campus as well as at Isbell Middle School.

Parking for residents living in neighborhoods adjacent to the high school has been a matter of ongoing controversy that has been addressed several times by the council.

At Monday’s meeting the council will again hear a report on potentially creating a parking district.
