A known Santa Paula gang member was shot Tuesday evening and police are asking the public for information on the attack that left the victim with a non-life threatening wound.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison, the January 19 incident occurred shortly before 9:14 p.m. when SPPD Officers responded to the 100 block of East Ventura Street for a report of a shooting victim.

“When officers arrived they located a male adult who suffered from a gunshot wound to the left arm that appeared not to be life threatening.”

The 39-year-old victim told officers he had been approached by another “male subject, and as the victim walked away he heard the shot,” and felt the bullet strike him in the arm.

The wound was “A through-and-through shot” that Madison  said was in the forearm of the victim.

After Santa Paula Fire EMTs and ambulance personnel treated the victim on scene he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he was treated for his injury.

The unidentified victim said Madison “Was quasi-cooperative…he gave the officers that were at the scene a statement but when detectives went to the hospital he said he had nothing more to say.”

Santa Paula Police are familiar with the victim, a known gang member.

“There’s a code of silence,” among gang members and noted Madison, “They don’t want to rat on each other…”
