By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesSanta Paula and Arizona police are investigating a possible carjacking and the disappearance of the owner of the car, according to a SPPD official.Four suspects are in custody in Douglas, Arizona but the missing car and its driver, Edgar Gabrera, 21 of Santa Paula, are still unaccounted for, said SPPD Sgt. Gary Marshall.Santa Paula police were contacted on Sunday, Jan. 13 that Gabrera had stopped at the home of a friend, Ramone Osornia, also 21 of Santa Paula, the day before. On Saturday, Jan. 12, “Gabrera drove up and asked Osornia if he wanted to go out,” said Sgt. Marshall. “Osornia said okay and went into his residence to get some money; when he came out, Gabrera was talking to four guys with shaved heads. . .Gabrera seemed nervous and as the four subjects got into his car he said he was going to give them a lift to 12th Street. He hasn’t been seen since.”
The way the suspects entered Gabrera’s car and his high-level of nervousness led to suspicions that he was the victim of a carjacking.A Douglas detective contacted the SPPD and said he had four suspects in custody for a local carjacking attempt; SPPD investigators recognized the names of the suspects as those seen leaving with the nervous Gabrera. But, “Police in Arizona don’t have Gabrera or his car,” said Sgt. Marshall.Being held in Arizona are Victor Arana, 21, Fermin Nievez, 22, Victor Alvarez, 18 and Roel Marquez, 16, according to Douglas police. It is expected that SPPD investigators will be sent to Arizona to question the suspects about the whereabouts of Gabrera. If anyone has any information or has seen Gabrera or his vehicle, contact Det. Sgt. Ismael Cordero at 933-4277 or the SPPD Tip Hotline at 933-4253-1-# (pound). Any person that has any information can remain anonymous when contacting the SPPD.
