Anthony Navarro, also known as Anthony Spencer, was arrested this week for grand theft and forgery, charges stemming from real estate dealings of Global Surplus Recovery, according to police reports. A local businessman contacted the Santa Paula Police Department in September, reporting he was the victim of real estate fraud.Navarro received in excess of $600,000 in funds and property from the victim for the purchase of a farm outside Santa Paula. Over the course of six months the victim was supplied with documentation showing the purchase was in progress. Much of the documentation proved to be forgeries, and the true owners of the farm were not selling the property and had not met with and did not know Anthony Navarro. On October 1, a search warrant was served on the suspect’s business on West Telegraph Road, Global Surplus Recovery, and at the suspect’s home in the 200 Block of Corte Linda. Documents and computers were seized.
The suspect was found to have warrants for fraud from Alhambra, California and in Nevada. The investigation is continuing.Documents found at the business and home indicate there may be other victims of real estate fraud involving Navarro. If you feel you may have been victimized in a similar manner by this suspect, please contact Detective Sergeant Steve Carter of the Santa Paula Police Department at 525-4474.
