SPPD Officer Macias honored as Officer of the Year by Kiwanis Club

City native Allen Macias was honored as the Santa Paula Police Officer of the Year at the 38th Annual Kiwanis Club of Ventura Law Day recognition held May 27.

Co-sponsored by the Santa Paula Kiwanis Club as well as others in Ventura County, the featured speaker for the event was Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.“It was a great accomplishment,” said Officer Macias. “The Law Day Award is voted on by my peers and it’s a great accomplishment for me.”Santa Paula Police Chief Bob Gonzales and Kiwanian Cheryl Misenhimer presented the Law Day Award to Officer Macias; Commander Mark Hanson and other SPPD personnel also attended.Born and raised in Santa Paula, Officer Macias is the son of Richard and the late Carol Macias. A 1990 graduate of Santa Paula High School, Officer Macias was active in sports, lettering in soccer, football and baseball.
He joined the SPPD as a Cadet “right after high school, and after several years became a correctional officer” for the California Department of Corrections, said Commander Hanson. After several years, he became an officer for the California City Police Department, where Officer Macias worked as a patrol officer and narcotics detective, assigned to a regional DEA Task Force.Upon returning to Ventura County in 2001, Officer Macias worked a year for Ventura College Campus Police until returning to the Santa Paula Police Department in 2002. He is currently a member of the Department’s Crime Suppression Unit, Special Response Team, and is a drug recognition expert, having testified in a number of cases. His most recent accomplishment is being selected as the Department’s motorcycle traffic officer, the first SPPD motorcycle officer since 1953.“Officer Macias’ motivation and devotion to his duty, his profession, and community makes him a leader within the Department and community,” Commander Hanson noted.Officer Macias resides in Santa Paula with his fiancée Clara, daughter Jessica, stepson Alejandro, and newborn son Andrew Richard Macias. Officer Macias’ younger brother, Austin, is a Santa Paula Firefighter.Others honored at Law Day were California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Moriarty, Camarillo Police Deputy Sheriff Kenneth J. Truitt, Fillmore Police Deputy Sheriff Albert Ramirez, Ojai Police Deputy Sheriff Victor Medina, Simi Valley Police Det. Tim Hilton, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Randy Skaggs, Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Robert Anderson and Ventura Police Department Sergeant Rick Murray.
