Dr. Aaron Luekenga

Dr. Aaron Luekenga has recently joined the optometric practice of Dr. Chris Bartelson and Dr. Kevin Ikeda and will be seeing patients in both the Santa Paula and Fillmore offices. According to Dr. Luekenga, he had searched throughout Southern California for a place to settle with his family and practice optometry. He fell in love with our valley, which reminds him of the rural setting where he grew up in Nampa, Idaho. “I haven’t met many people who have moved to Southern California to find a small town like the one they grew up in, but that’s what I’ve found here.”Because Dr. Luekenga’s wife, Nicole, was born and raised in Moorpark, and her family still resides there, he was hoping to find a practice available in Ventura County. He says that when he started his search, he began with all of Southern California and his list had over 200 practices to consider. He narrowed it down, and said that Bartelson and Ikeda’s practice was the “top of the line,” both professionally and technologically. He looks forward to planting his roots here and is very anxious to get involved in the community.Just prior to coming into the Bartelson and Ikeda practice, Dr. Luekenga was stationed for three years as an optometrist at the hospital at Lemoore Naval Air Station in the San Joaquin Valley. While with the Navy, his patients included aircraft carrier pilots and their crews, and he was in charge of the eye clinic at the Top Gun school in Fallon, Nevada. His Bachelor of Science undergraduate work was at Brigham Young University, followed by four years of study at Southern California College of Optometry, where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree. He particularly enjoys family practice eye care, as well as therapeutic treatment and management of ocular diseases.Dr. Luekenga and his wife Nicole have a 2-year-old son, Aaron, nicknamed A. J., and they enjoy camping and church activities. Dr. Luekenga is enthusiastic about living in our area and being in practice here.
As he said, “My wife grew up in Ventura County and naturally had an affinity for the area. I loved the area the first time I saw it. We both knew this was the place we wanted to call home. It’s a community where people know each other and where we can get involved and feel a kinship with the people here.”
